| Is CASTLE & KING an ISP (Internet Service Provider)? |
| No. An ISP provides the connection to enable you to use the Internet, view websites and send e-mail. We do not provide this service for individuals or businesses. We design and manage commercial websites for local businesses - ie we provide the website to be viewed, not the ability to view it. |
| What sort of websites does CASTLE & KING produce? |
| We have considerable experience in designing and managing websites of all sizes for a very wide variety of both commercial and non-commercial organisations.
All of the websites we design are tailor-made to suit your needs. |
| Where will my website be located? |
| What will be the address of my website? |
| You will need to choose a website address which will probably be in the form of: www.your-name.co.uk or www.your-name.com.
We can check which addresses are available and advise on which one to choose. We can then also arrange for the registration of the name.

| How will people find my website? |
1. Almost everyone uses ‘search engines’ to find web sites. A search engine is a website which includes the addresses and details of literally millions of websites from around the world. The viewer types in certain words and the search engine returns a list of all the websites which include those words. We will register your site with all of the six major search engines: Yahoo!, AltaVista, Lycos, Infoseek, Excite and HotBot although we can make no guarantees about your site being listed. 2. We cannot stress too highly the importance of promoting your website address through 'conventional' media. You should include your website address in all future advertising in much the same way as you would include your telephone number. This should also be shown on things like letterheads, as well as on posters, in newspaper advertisements and the Yellow Pages etc, and on your company vehicles. Small advertisements might include a message something like: ‘full details can be found on our website’. 3. If you are in the Swindon area, then you might like to advertise on SwindonWeb. Produced by CASTLE & KING, this is Swindon's original 'portal' website, presenting an enormous amount of information about the town. We can offer very attractive advertising rates which will help to establish your website in Swindon and the surrounding area. |
| Who will design my website? |
| This will be a joint effort. You will have your own ideas about what you want included in the site, and we will be able to advise on the practicalities and make some suggestions of our own. We will do as much or as little of the design work as you require. But the important thing is for us to discuss the whole project with you to ensure the finished website does what you expect it to.
You will need to provide us with the text to be used. You will also need to provide us with the photographs you want included, plus graphics like your company logo etc. You can then leave all the technical stuff to us. Of course, we will liaise with you closely and ensure that you are perfectly happy with the site before it is published. |
| What computer equipment do I need? |
| You don’t need any computer equipment to have a website. We have all the equipment necessary and will do everything for you.
However, you will need a computer (with a modem) to receive e-mail messages which might be sent to you as a result of people browsing your website. You might therefore want a simple access account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Freeserve, VirginNet or Global Internet. This will enable you to view your own site and will provide you with an e-mail address (see below). |
| What about e-mail? |
| If you have internet access through an ISP as explained above, then this will include one or more e-mail addresses, which you can choose yourself (eg bloggs@virgin.net).
We can also provide e-mail forwarding facilities with the rental of the webspace (see above). This will enable you to use a number of e-mail aliases in the form of info@your-name.co.uk. We very strongly recommend that you make the most of e-mail. One of the great advantages of having a website is that potential customers will be able to view it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. And if you have an e-mail address they can send you a message immediately - they don’t have to wait (and maybe forget) to phone you the next day. |
| How often can I change the things in my website? |
| As often as you need to. This will depend on your type of business. Some websites are updated daily, some weekly or monthly, and some less often. We will encourage you to keep it up-to-date because viewers expect websites to always show the latest information. We always design websites in such a way that they can be easily amended later.
Depending on the nature and frequency of the changes made to the website, we can either make the changes, or you may prefer us to set up a system enabling you to make the amendments yourself. |
| How do I send you the text and pictures to be included in my website? |
| There are various ways. For text, the most immediate is to simply send us an e-mail message; or you could send it to us on a floppy disk. If you don’t have access to these things, then you can just post or fax it to us.
It is best if you supply us with original photographs and other graphics you want included in the site. We scan these and convert them into a format suitable to be included in the website. We then return the originals to you. If you have the facilities to produce your own image files, then you might prefer to send them to us either on disk or as attachments to an e-mail message. |
| Isn’t all this going to take up a lot of my time? |
| In much the same way as any other advertising medium, all you need to do is tell us what you want, and we will do it for you. We will of course have to liaise with you to ensure the site looks and works the way you want, but you can leave all the rest to us. That’s what we are here for! |
| What is the situation with copyright? |
| Copyright of any work originated by CASTLE & KING, including the creation of graphics and computer code, will remain the property of CASTLE & KING. We will grant you exclusive and unrestricted permission for the use of that material and its reproduction in any form for your own use. This safeguards our position against unaurthorised copying or amending of our work by third parties. We will be pleased to transfer copyright to you for a small fee.
Copyright of any photographs, artwork or text provided by you will remain yours. You will have to ensure that you hold the copyright of, or have been given permission to use, any material you give us to include on your site. |
| How much does it cost? |
| This is impossible to say until we know what sort of website you need. If someone quotes you a standard price for a website, then it quite clearly will not be tailor-made for your needs.
We need to come and discuss your needs before we can work out how much it will cost, but we are confident that it will be less than you probably think. The price depends on three main factors:
We will quote a price for the design and building of the website and then, depending on its nature, a separate price for ongoing managment and any likely maintenance. Registration of the domain name and webspace rental charges (which can be paid annually or monthly) are likely to be the only extra charges. |
| How do we get things moving? |
| A website can be a very flexible and powerful marketing tool. But it is vitally important that it does what you want it to do. This is why every website must be tailor-made.
The first step would be for us to come and discuss your needs. There would be no charge for this initial meeting and you would be under no obligation. We would then provide you with a written and fully broken-down estimate of the costs. |
